Here are some pieces I’ve designed for this holiday season, only available through Fractalspin. They are all one-of-a-kind, except for the Microprocessor Necklace (bottom left), $22, which is an edition of four. The Audio Amplifier Filigree Necklace, $140, (top left) was a fun one to make (if a bit time consuming), and discovering enough rare yellow capacitors resulted in the Yellow Capacitor Necklace $65 (bottom right).
An engineering friend sent me a care package of various surplus components, and I hadn’t felt inspired to transform them until recently to make them into cool, one-off necklaces, the 2012 Microchip Necklaces (top right), $34. What you don’t see is the failures (thankfully), but playing around is part of the process. I picked out the coolest ones and made unique necklaces out of them. These will make some girl very happy this holiday season.
All of them come with a Certificate of Authenticity that was inspired by Microsoft’s Windows 95 Certificate of Authenticity.
This necklace features a real, glass fuse on an 18″ white-plated chain, with a lobster clasp closure and a removable 3″ extension chain. It comes packaged in a real, silver-colored anti-static bag used in the electronics industry to protect sensitive electronics from damage. The earrings are made from real, 125V 3A glass fuses, 1/2″ long and .25″ wide and attached to French hook ear wire and secured from the back with rubber wire stoppers. They are packaged in real anti-static bags used in the electronics industry, as well as black foam backing.

These ornate earrings each have five blue diodes and one orange glass diode dangling from a hand-formed wire frame with figure-8 jump rings added. At the center of each is a purple resistor.They are packaged securely on black “anti-static” resembling foam inside a small, silver reclosable anti-static bag with an electronics handling precaution label–nearly identical to how working components are packaged.
